I'm suffering from Wegwee.

It's a dutch word for the opposite of Homesickness

The state of mind of someone who wants to get away from his home environment

and longs fiercly for distant horizons.

A Synonym for Wanderlust.

It seems to be the way to keep my brain flexible.

Make me happier.  Promote my health.

And finally extend my life.

What a wonderful prospect.

Desire is my engine.

Where I dream, what I long for,

puts me in constant motion.

See where my desire has already taken me and what is yet to come.

Since the age of 25 I've been riding a motorcycle

but always on beautiful  tarmac roads within Europe.

I was always a bit afraid of sand, gravel, stones, mud.

But fears are there to be overcome. How?

An off-road motorcycle trip in Madagascar .

Through a mix of freedom, adventure, thrill and adrenaline

a shot of happiness hormones was released.

What a wonderful feeling.  I wanted this more often.

And that's what I did.

Madagascar was soon followed by Lapland , fascinatingly beautiful!

A city trip to Marrakesh , super!

Back to Madagascar again, but this time on a quad bike.

I also really wanted to go back to East Africa.

In 2015 I have already been to Tanzania .

As a volunteer working within a Maasai community

in the beautiful region of the Ngorongoro,

where I worked for 5 weeks in a small hospital.

But now I wanted longer.

It first became  two months in Uganda in 2018

and my my  first introduction to Mother's Heart Uganda .

In June 2019 I wanted much longer.

I took a year of unpaid leave to travel alone through Africa.

First 2 months to Mother's Heart Uganda .

Then with UG-Motobike a tour with the motorcycle

through southwestern Uganda.

And on to  Malawi , Zambia , Botswana and Namibia .

Everywhere I stayed in the homes of the people, living the local live.

You can see and read all about it in my blogs.

Met so many beautiful people.

Learned so much.

I am still suffering from Wegwee.

From  March 2021  to March 2022 I  spent a year living and working on Sint Maarten.

Another extraordinary experience.

And now I'm back on my own beautiful Steigereiland.

For as long as it lasts....
